After the wedding episode, the show's ratings, which were already declining, fell, and ABC canceled The Farmer's Daughter. In the penultimate episode, "Is He or Isn't He?", Katy adopts Glen's sons, providing the series closure as well as a happy ending.

The young farmer's daughter is given a riddle to solve by the king: “Come to see me, not dressed, not undressed, not naked, not riding, not walking, not driving, not at night or day, come with a present and without.” If she solves it, the king promises not only to release her father from prison, but also to marry her.

Loretta Young was an American actress. Starting as a child actress, she had a long and varied career in film from 1917 to 1953. She won the 1948 best actress Academy Award for her role in the 1947 film The Farmer's Daughter, and received an Oscar nomination for her role in Come to the Stable, in 1950.

The film won the Academy Award for Best Actress for Loretta Young and was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Charles Bickford. Young's win was considered an upset; everyone had expected Rosalind Russell to win for her Lavinia in Mourning Becomes Electra.
